Ensure Your Employability During Changing Times with These Strategies

ensure your employability

If there is one thing that is a constant in the employment world, it is change. With an ever-changing job market and fluctuations and demands in who and what is needed, following the same methods when looking for employment can mean lack of work. There are a handful of things you can do to better cater to the changing demands of the workforce to ensure you stay as employable as possible even during changing times.

1. Don’t be afraid to ask questions.

In a changing job force, keeping your mouth shut when you really want to know something is just going to get you left behind. It is pretty common for people to not ask questions even though they want to know the answers for fear of looking uneducated or slow in front of their superiors and peers. However, not speaking up can leave you out of the loop where changes are concerned with a current employer. Plus, if you are trying to land a job, asking questions and getting reliable answers could be what makes you more employable than the next individual.

2. Nurture your professional connections.

You never know when a simple acquaintance or introduction could be just what is needed to get an employer to notice you. People who have a strong network of professional connections are more likely to land open positions in a workforce in their field simply because they are a familiar face or name. Start looking at the professional interactions and connections you make as potential investments in your future as an employee and you will see an immediate improvement in job searching efforts in general.

3. Take charge of your own learning abilities.

Everyone learns in different ways and at different rates, but in a changing workforce, it is best to not rely heavily on others to teach you new skills you need to know. Take charge of your own learning capabilities and get to know how you learn the best.  Take the initiative to teach yourself new skills which could make you more employable in your current field. For example, if you work for an online publisher as a basic copy editor, teach yourself more about SEO and Google Analytics and you could easily be considered if an advanced position in SEO marketing comes up.
