Change your job and keep the change
As you know, The Great Resignation is the current name for a phenomena that developed during the pandemic. The record number of workers who quit their jobs has led to more open positions then available workers.
While this phenomenon began in 2021 and accelerated in 2022, there are still more positions open than workers to fill them.
So, if you are seriously considering leaving your present job or just thinking about it, there are several things to consider.
Know your goals
Take a moment to consider your own career goals. What are your short-term goals, what are your long-term goals. Is your present job helping you to achieve those goals? Are there other companies better suited to help you achieve your goals?
This also might be a good time to look at what’s driving your decision to leave your present position.
Working conditions
The most common factor in job changes is looking for better working conditions. If that’s your major reason for a change, take a moment. You know what you don’t want, so now’s the time to write down what you do want.
Things to consider
It’s always a good time to clean up your social media profiles especially at the beginning of the job search!.
Remember to keep your job search to yourself. No social media announcements here, please!
This is a good time to improve your time management skills
You may want to prioritize your activities by keeping an A, B, and C list. Of course, you know those A-list activities are your priority. One of the values of having a B and C list is the satisfaction you get each time you get to scratch off another item!
Common sense
Everyone will tell you and it’s easier to find a job if you are currently employed. According to the 2020 study by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, the typical employee stays at a job for just over four years.
You may want to factor in how long you have been at your present position. If it’s been under two years you want to be certain that you can show reasons why you are making the change.
Enhance the process
While there still are many other factors to consider, this is the point where a competent professional staffing agency can step in. This will greatly enhance the process for you. It may also shorten it at the same time.
You may be looking for temporary work placements or a permanent position. If you are looking for a permanent position, your staffing agency can give you an overview of what’s in your area and more.
A counter offer
When you give your notice, your present employer may make a counter offer.
An interesting statistic to remember is that 85% of workers who accept counteroffers leave their jobs within six months, and 90% are gone within a year.
